We were online one evening researching childhood developmental milestones.  We had just been told that our friend’s 2 ½ year old son may be struggling with PDD (Pervasive Developmental Disorder).   PDD is an autism spectrum disorder that until that day, we had never heard of.

For the next two years, he endured about 8 hours of therapy every week.  Ultimately, it was discovered that he simply developed certain skills later than typical, but he is not autistic.  His parents consider themselves lucky.  But during that time of uncertainty, they learned a lot about the struggles parents of autistic children face.

My husband and I also learned some important things.  First, if it weren’t for the organizations that fund autism research and therapy for children, our friends’ medical expenses would have been unaffordable.  Second, if it were not for charitable donations, many of these organizations and their services could not exist.

My husband asked the question, “What if we could build a site that would help educate people about autism while generating income for medical research?”  So, we began constructing a website to do just that.  But as we designed the site, we talked to other people and realized that there are so many issues that profoundly affect us as humans -  so many great causes to support.  No matter who you are, there is SOMETHING you care deeply about.  From this reality, Homepage Heroes was created.

It really is, I promise.  You can support your favorite cause in one of two ways:

  1. Go to the CHARITIES page on our site.  Then choose the cause you care about most and click CONTINUE.  You will be brought to a page that you can either bookmark or set as your homepage.  Now, any time you shop online using the retailers on the bottom of that page or at our mall, a percentage of the sale goes to the charity you’ve chosen.  Easy!
  2. Click REGISTER to create a free profile and your personal homepage is ready to go.  Then, customize it with a background image and your favorite retailers. Make sure to bookmark your new homepage or better yet, set it as your browser’s homepage. Now any time you shop online using your retailers or our mall, a percentage of the sale goes to the charity you’ve chosen.
